Gibson Les Paul Custom 1972

Jeff Donahoe

Beautiful sunburst finish. Headstock repair, typical of these old Les Pauls. Tuners were replaced, but I found the original waffle tuners and had them put back on. Great condition, buckle rash on the back of the body, but none go through the finish to the wood. Whew. Cool Gibson embossed pickups, like the 1972 Black Beauty in the Fab Collection. A great great find.

Condition 95% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1972

Gryphon Strings

The action on this guitar is incredible, no wonder they call this one the "fretless wonder". Cool Gibson embossed logo on each pickup. Probably the most valuable of the Fab Collection.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.8/10.

Gibson Les Paul Custom 1974 Twentieth Anniversary Model

Coleman Music

Growing up, I always wished I owned the same guitar that Randy Rhoads used to play. Well, now I do! The white finish has faded to a nice creme colour. It has the cool "20th Anniversary" inlay on the 15th fret. Highly sought after guitar, I was lucky to get one for a great price. Had replacement tuners, original waffle tuners put back on.

Condition 90% original, new knobs.
Rating 9/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop 1973

Rob Wesley

Some green visible on the cracks on the top of the body. Nice crackling on the finish which really gives it that old look that is so sought after.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Tobacco Sunburst 1979

Ebay

Average finish looks, not nearly as nice as the cherry, but in excellent shape. Who says you can't get great deals on Ebay?

Condition 100% original, missing pickguard.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop 1973

Rumble Seat Music

Amazing Gold Top finish, in better condition than any I've ever seen. Rumble Seat Music is one of my favorite stores, all their guitars are in great condition. But be prepared to pay... this one cost me a pretty penny.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.8/10.

Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Cherry Burst 1973

Rob Wesley

Cherry burst finish is GORGEOUS, nicest I've ever seen on a cherry! Tuners were changed, I found vintage ones and had them put back on. Bridge not original. But that finish makes it a real gem. Thanks, Rob.

Condition 90% original, bad headstock repair.
Rating 8.5/10.

Gibson ES-120T 1964

San Francisco Pawn Shop via Ebay

Beautiful tobacco finish, older than me but in much better shape. This guitar was owned by Drake Levin, guitarist for the 1960s wonder band Paul Revere and the Raiders (of Louie, Louie fame). The only celebrity guitar in the Fab Collection!

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Epiphone Century 1961

Rob Wesley

FINE WINE. Another beauty from Rob. This guy is amazing, I only hope the Fab Collection will be as nice as Rob's collection. All original, except missing the white pickguard. So what, it looks better without it anyhow. Epiphone's entry-level thinline archtop.

Condition 95% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1959

Ebay

WOW WOW WOW. The finish on this condition is so nice, it's hard to believe that it hasn't been resprayed. But I doubt it, because you can feel the cracks when you rub your fingernail over it. Really nice tobacco sunburst finish. A real gem. These fifties Melody Makers are such a bargain compared to the Les Paul Juniors, but similar in sound and in looks.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1967

Lark Street Music

Holy cow, I wish all the guitars in the Fab Collection were in this condition, it's flawless. It has that nice cracking on the finish that makes it look like an antique painting. Very cool blue color. I love it!

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.9/10.

Gibson Melody Maker 1967-1970

Jack's Music, Montreal

Unsure of the exact year. Very nice red color, has its share of battle scares, scrapes, and dings, and unfortunately some go through the finish to the wood. But the red finish has that nice crackling that gives it such a cool look. And the 2-pickup version is highly sought. I've had this one longer than any other electric in the Fab Collection.

Condition 80% original, replaced vibrola and knobs.
Rating 8/10.

Gretsch Chet Atkins Nashville 1967

Rob Wesley

All original, except missing the cheesy mute mechanism they used to put on these guitars. Easy to fix, but why bother. Binding is starting to rot, typical of these older Gretsches. Cool orange finish. Note the fake f-holes. Rockabilly wonder machine.

Condition 98% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Gretsch Single Anniversary 1961

Rob Wesley

ELVIS LIVES, and he's playing this guitar... brought to you by the Fab Collection. It's in great shape. The only flaw is a small hole on the neck that has since been filled in. The f-holes on this one are real. What a beauty, very Vegas and one of my faves. Thanks, Rob !

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.6/10.

Neil Hebert Classical 1976

John Donovan

MY WORKHORSE. My friends know that I was trained as a classical guitarist since a child. So it's not surprising that I have a fine hand made instrument, by luthier Neil Hebert. Fine cedar top, restored in 2007 by Gérald Mercier of Bruand Guitars in Montreal.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

Danelectro Shorthorn 3/4 Acoustic 1960s

Ebay

Kind of quirky but it cost me practically nothing and it's a great conversation piece if nothing else. Danielle calls this the Johnny Cash guitar. Cool and sounds pretty darned good for a low end acoustic. Danelectors are going nowhere except up in price.

Condition 100% original?
Rating 9.7/10.

Danelectro DC-1 1959-1967

Guitar Emporium of Louisville

JIMMY'S GUITAR. Yes, Jimmy Page used to play the 2 pickup version. Very cool guitar and in great shape. These were built as cheapo guitars back in the day, but you wouldn't guess that by its sound. Probaly due in part to that highly desirable lipstick tube pickup. If it's good enough for Jimmy, it's good enough for the Fab Collection.

Condition 100% original.
Rating 9.5/10.

The wave of Les Pauls

Various

I have 7 Les Pauls, I wish I had 700.

That's all, folks! Thanks for visiting the Guitar Collection page, and stay tuned as I acquire more guitars...
